In Uganda’s Kanungu district, vulnerable farming families face interconnected challenges including malnutrition, low household income, poor access to clean water, inadequate health services, and limited educational support. These issues reinforce cycles of poverty and dependency.

OBJECTIVE:

Supporting 100 households using the SHINE model (Sanitation, Hygiene, Income, Nutrition, and Energy). Its integrated, household-based approach focuses on practical, low-cost solutions that promote resilience and self-reliance.

KEY INTERVENTIONS:

  • Installation of rainwater tanks to improve hygiene and reduce time spent collecting water.

  • Establishment of kitchen gardens to enhance food security and nutrition.

  • Introduction of energy-saving stoves to improve health and reduce fuel use.

  • Training one household member in income-generating activities (IGPs) to boost earnings.

  • School & Household water tanks and solar lamps to improve hygiene and enable children to study after dark.

INTENDED IMPACT:

The project aims to improve nutrition, health, water access, income stability, and education outcomes, while building long-term community ownership.
