ABOUT UCAAM

Over the last 10 years, Uganda has made commendable progress in the fight against malaria – with a decline in prevalence from 45% in 2009 to 9% in 2019 and mortality from 20 per 100,000 population in 2016 to 9 per 100,000 population in 2019.

However, there is still some work to be done for the country to become a “Malaria-Free Uganda” as outlined in the Uganda Malaria Reduction Strategic Plan 2021-2025.

InPact is one of the seven founding members and current host of the UCAAM secretariat. UCAAM is an alliance of over 50 Ugandan civil society organizations working towards prevention, control and elimination of Malaria morbidity and mortality in Uganda. Local CSOs play an important role in the malaria reduction and elimination - complimenting the efforts of the government agencies, international implementing partners and the private sector.

Through UCAAM, local CSOs are working closely with other Malaria prevention, reduction and elimination partners including the Ministry of Health to:

  • Support implementation of interventions,

  • Strengthen community linkages

  • Advocate for policy development and reform

  • Coalesce resources at community level to accelerate and build sustainable solutions for malaria elimination.
